Homeschool Day at Crocker Art Museum

February 9, 2010 is Homeschool Day at Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.  These special days are designed for small homeschool groups and individual families.  They feature a trail of docent spotlight talks throughout the Museum, a hands-on art workshop and a post-visit art education activity to do at home.

 

Pre-registration is required. To register, call (916) 808-1182 or email education@crockerartmuseum.org.

 

Tickets are free to youth groups in Sacramento County, $2 per student outside Sacramento County, required chaperones are free (1:5 chaperone to students), $4 per additional chaperone.

Super Bowl Sunday … Just About the Food?

 

I just read a statistic that said out of every five people that watch the Super Bowl only three of them are football fans.  So what are those other two people doing at the Super Bowl Party?  They came for the food of course.  And if the truth were actually known all five of them probably expect to consume their fair share of goodies.  About 7.5 million parties are held on Super Bowl Sunday with 43.9 million party attendees. Whole Foods Market Roseville Chocolate Festival 2010

Saturday, February 13, 2010, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM the Whole Foods Market in Roseville is having a chocolate festival.

Chocolates from around the world, gift ideas, Zumba Dancing demonstrations and instruction, henna tattoos and what festival would be complete without a Chocolate Fountain with fresh berries for your dipping pleasure!  Check it out!  Might be a good place to find something sweet for your sweetie for Valentine’s Day.

Sacramento Tops in Bike Commuting

The Sacramento Bicycle Advocates (SABA) reported this month that the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey found that Sacramento now has more bike commuters than any other California city, and is 4th nationally behind Portland, Minneapolis and Seattle.  With 2.72% of Sacramento’s commuter trips now by bike, the rate has doubled from just 10 years ago. Sacramento Police Ask for Help Identifying Armed Robbers

Hey Look, It’s a Surveillance Camera, I’m Going to be on TV

The Sacramento Police Department is releasing surveillance photos of two armed robbers.  Both suspects looked directly at the surveillance camera during the robbery which captured clear images of their faces.  Detectives hope someone will recognize them and come forward with the information needed to identify them.

On Saturday, January 23, 2009, at 3:37 p.m., two suspects entered a video game store located in the 3600 block of Northgate Boulevard.  They approached an employee and demanded money at gunpoint.  The employee complied.  Both suspect fled after obtaining cash.  The suspects were seen fleeing in a four-door, beige, 1990’s Buick. Sacramento County Animal Care Facility Receives Gold Certification Under LEED Standards

The new Animal Care Facility, opened in October 2009, has just received a GOLD LEED certification from the US Green Building Council.  The LEED program - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certifies the level of green elements in a building’s design, including a minimum impact on the environment in construction and energy savings in design.  This designation highlights County commitment to “green building” construction.
