Thoughts for Tuesday Morning
The Labor Day holiday if officially over. Since that is the last summer holiday some people think it is the official entry into fall, even though that doesn’t really happen until September 22nd this year. I think it still feels like summer and that’s good for a few days more of outdoor stuff that doesn’t involve snow or coats. Although we don’t actually have to worry about those things much since our average temperature is 61 degrees in Sacramento.
What I was really wondering about was what happens to all that 200 tons of dirt that was dumped on the streets in Old Sac for Gold Rush Days now that they are over. What a clean up job! Makes you think twice about complaining when you have to empty the vacuum cleaner. Maybe we should just leave it there for next year. It really looked authentic and I’m sure that all those horses thought it was a lot more comfy to walk on than those bricks underneath. I looked at the City of Sacramento Street Services Department to see if they are the ones to tackle the job, but no luck. One thing I did learn though is there’s a number to call if you have a pothole on your street; for Street Services Customer Assistance, call (916) 808-1888. Imagine that and I thought nobody cared if my car falls into a hole in the road.
Speaking of clean up jobs, they had the annual “Tomatina” (which is just a big tomato fight) in the Mediterranean village of Bunol, Spain, last wednesday. I’ll bet they are still cleaning up that one. We grow tomatos close to Sacramento too but thank heaven we have the good sense to eat them instead of throw them at each other. Hard to believe they’ve been doing this every year for over sixty years.
I have a lot more Tuesday Morning thoughts, but it’s time for me to do my small part to clean up after the holiday and empty the vacuum cleaner.
