A Taste of Sacramento

Published by sara under Restaurants and Food

Mark your calendar for Friday, September 5th from 5:30 to 9:00PM.  This is the 10th annual…… “A Taste of Sacramento”, a fundraiser for Easter Seals.  The 2008 theme of “Under the Tuscan Moon” will bring a little bit of Italy to Sacramento.  The Sacramento Convention Center will be transformed to an Italian Festival with about 70 vendors from restaurants, wineries, and breweries from all over the Greater Sacramento Area.  The guests will be given a keepsake wine glass and tray to hold the unlimited samples for their enjoyment.  There will be an old world courtyard, a V.I.P. Tasting Room, as well as music and entertainment through out the evening.  Another highlight of the evening will be the Silent Auction open between 5:30 and 8:00PM.  Sounds like a total treat for the tastebuds.  ……….   Bon Appétit!      For ticket info click on “A Taste of Sacramento”.

Biking in Sacramento

Okay so gas prices are down a few cents, let’s not forget prices almost doubled in the last couple of years.  But with hurricanes blowing things away down south in Louisiana and Texas, all those people in the Middle East mad at us, and the housing market crashing, maybe it’s time we checked out an alternate form of transportation called the “bike”.  No, I don’t mean we should all get a Harley and hit the open road.  What I really meant was we should dust off the old bicycle and check out the Sacramento bike trails.  You know what they say, “once you learn to ride a bike you never forget how.”

Once you learn to ride a bike you never forget!

In Sacramento we have the American River Bike Trail(click on this link for a map), one of the premier bike trails in the United States.  This trail runs along the American River for 32 miles from Old Sacramento to Folsom Lake.  There are lots of restrooms and picnic areas along the way as well as access points with parking in case you want to load the bike in your vehicle and just ride your favorite portion instead of the whole 32 miles.  If you don’t have a bike or if you’re here on vacation and forgot to pack your bike, you can rent one in “Old Sac“.

Another good thing to know is that busses in Sacramento have bike racks so when it’s “take your bike to work day”, no problem.  Also most of the streets have bike lanes and the light rail stations even have bike lockers.  So if you have a bike you can’t trust you can lock it up while you ride the train.  I just read yesterday that there’s a study that says exercise may help in preventing dementia.  Who knew, riding your bike may keep you from going crazy.  Driving a car sure doesn’t, I think a lot of otherwise sane people get a little crazy when they get behind the wheel of a car.
So watch this little video and get in the mood for a nice long bike ride in Sacramento.
