California Budget……Crisis or Crazy?

Published by sara under Hotels, Politics, Sacramento People

I just saw yet another news story about the overdue California budget.  I am amazed that here in Sacramento, our glorious state capitol, our elected officials can’t decide how to spend those “tax dollars we so willingly pay”.   Maybe we should just lock them all in one of those many hotels we have here until they agree to get along and pass a budget so everyone can get on with the business of running our state.  I guess they don’t know that everything they need to know they learned in kindergarten.  You know, get along with others, say please and thank you, hold hands when you cross the street, and all those other things you have to know to get along in life.  I’ll bet the Governator knows all those things, after all he was “Kindergarten Cop“, he should share that stuff with all the legislators who can’t agree.  For heavens sake, you guys and gals never had trouble spending money before. I for one say this budget crisis is crazy

Sacramento Real Estate……..is it really a bargain?

Published by sara under Real Estate

I know some of you think you’re not interested in real estate right now, but if you stop and think about it real estate affects all of us, buying, selling, just living in it, or even blogging about real estate.  If you own a house you have to be thinking about how much less it is worth now than it was last year.  If you don’t own a house (tell the truth now, you know you want one), then this drop in real estate prices makes a lot of people think they can buy a house.  House prices may be cheaper, but there’s still a lot of competition out there at the lower end of the market (under $300,000).  And if you say you’re happy just being a renter and letting someone else worry about fixing that leaky toilet and mowing the grass, you’re still affected by all the ups and downs of the real estate market.  All those people who lost their homes to foreclosure are gobbling up the extra rental units and making your Sacramento landlord think about raising your rent since he is getting so much more interest in every available unit.  All the rental incentives that were floating around a couple of years ago have gone by the wayside too.  No more free month rent if you sign a year lease, you will be lucky to get the carpet cleaned.  So whether you’re interested in real estate or not, it’s interested in you.  Buyer, seller, or renter, you’re just one more cog in the big real estate wheel that keeps on rolling every day whether you notice or not.  As the world turns ……powered by real estate.

As you may have been able to discern from my slight tinge of bitterness, I am one of those small cogs in the big wheel of real estate that is looking for a house to buy.  I’m a little frustrated by the fact that every time I find a great bargain in our fair city of Sacramento, at least a dozen other people seem to find it at the same time.  In the mean time since I haven’t found that “perfect for me” little piece of real estate I have to renew my lease and the only incentive I get is my carpet cleaned or an accent wall painted.  Well, my carpet isn’t dirty since I’m one of those take your shoes off at the door kind of people, and I don’t need a red wall, what I need is more closet space.  To give credit where it is due I have to add a word of praise for the real estate agent who has been very patient through all our journey of looking for the perfect bit of real estate here in SacramentoJennifer Gereghty, who works out of the Coldwell Banker Downtown Office, has looked at a lot of bank repos with us and maintained a much better attitude than I have through most of the journey.  So my quest continues and if you are a seller cog that needs to connect with a buyer cog looking for a bargain with lots of closets, let me know.
