B J’s Restaurant and Brewhouse

Published by sara under Restaurants and Food

My husband was convinced that tonight was pizza and beer night.  Not that I’m a teetotaler, and he is right that pizza goes with beer, but this just didn’t fit my idea of an evening out for dinner. After much discussion we agreed to go to B J’s Restaurant and Brewhouse.  According to his logic this should satisfy both of us because just look at the name, both a restaurant and a brewhouse.  Even though it seemed like a bit of an oxymoron that both could share the same name, I reluctantly agreed to accept his self-serving logic.

My husband enjoyed his pizza and beer, of which there was quite a selection: pizza’s from thin and crispy to deep dish Chicago style, and beers from light to dark.  I will have to admit that even though I was a little sceptical at first the restaurant menu was quite nice after all.  I had the parmesan encrusted chicken topped with lemon chardonnay butter sauce and served with white cheddar mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.  For those who wanted something other than beer, there was wine and a full aray of other spirits including 8 different kinds of martinis.  I guess compromise really can happen.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that B J’s Restaurant and Brewhouse created a win win situation out of a family dispute.  He was lucky this time, but the next time my husband tries to convice me that Weinerschnitzel is really a German restaurant I won’t fall for his tricks.

There are several B J’s in Sacramento just click on this link to find one near you.

Election Fatigue

Published by sara under Events, Politics

I think most of the country, and especially our fair city of Sacramento, is suffering from “Election Fatigue”.  Even with all the good things going on in Sacramento, we have our own set of problems here in River City, foreclosures in record numbers, the financial crisis causing our retirement accounts to shrink, the legislature and the Governator couldn’t agree on a budget for almost 3 months, high gas prices, food prices going up.  Consider all these things and then add the election craziness on top and we’ve created a disease that’s spreading like wildfire.  Election fatigue!  The good news is only a couple more weeks of political ads, debates and campaign retoric and we can expect a cure, Election Day!

One of the things that will help the symptoms is registering to vote.  The other day I gave you a prescription for this in the post “Are You Registered to Vote?” If you haven’t filled it yet click on the link to find out what to do.  So until election day, November 4, 2008, get plenty of rest, be sure and drink lots of liquids, register to vote, take 2 asprin and call me when the ballots are counted.

Get a Free Shot at Starbucks

This won’t work at all Starbucks, but if you happen to be close to the Starbucks at 2121 Natomas Crossing Drive give it a try.  They have a daily trivia question and if you answer it correctly they will give you a free shot.  So if you are a former Jeapordy winner or just a Trivia Pursuit  champion and need a little extra energy boost that doesn’t break the budget go ahead and take advantage of them.
