Sacramento Airport (SMF)

I enjoyed the privilege of being an airport shuttle for friends this weekend.  I didn’t have a snappy uniform or an official hat, but I may have found my new calling.  The Sacramento Airport is easy to maneuver and parking for the first half hour is free.  So if you call or check online to see if the flight is on schedule and you time it right you can park and meet your party at the bottom of the escalator with their name on a sign so they will feel important.  It won’t even cost for parking since the first half hour is free.  If you plan to use this trick be sure to tell them to call your cell phone as soon as they land before they get off the plane so you will have time to stow the car and get there before they get downstairs, otherwise you will use that first half hour waiting for them to land.  Then so you won’t go over and have to pay, just volunteer to get the car and meet them out front by the baggage claim while they wait for their luggage.

If you’ve ever been to LAX or other large airports you will know what I mean about Sacramento Airport being easy to maneuver.  There are only two terminals (A & B), so I can truthfully say it’s easier than ABC.  Sacramento International Airport may not be as big as some of those crazy airports, but you will find all the creature comforts the “big guys” have, just more compact.  There’s all the normal food offerings as well as a shop where you can find a great selection of California wines, bookstores, gift shops, of course the ever present Starbucks, a shoe shine stand, a place where the weary traveler can relax with a neck and back massage, and free wifi for those of you who might want to check in with the office or maybe find a great website (sacramentoscoop.com) with things to do while you’re in Sacramento.  Besides all that, it is conveniently located and easy to find, just head north of Sacramento on I-5 and follow the signs, you can’t miss it. (Or just click here for directions)  If all my other employment opportunities fail this airport shuttle thing just might have some possibilities.

Disney on Ice Comes to Sacramento

Published by sara under Events

On Wednesday, October 29, 2008, Mickey, Minnie and all their friends with the Disney on Ice show will slide across the ice at Arco Arena straight to your heart.  We all grew up with Mickey and the gang and it’s always a welcome treat to take a walk down “Memory Lane”, or in this case a singalong skating adventure.  What could be better than a visit with old friends and the thrill of swooshing around on ice skates combined.  That’s almost like discovering that ice cream is really good for you!

Is W. really a movie or just a bad political joke?

Published by sara under Movies

I was looking for a movie to “waste” a couple of hours when I read the reviews on Oliver Stone’s movie W.  This movie seems like a long news reel about the life of George W. Bush, one of our most unpopular presidents in history.  I think we all have so much “Election Fatigue” that a movie about anything political is more like a punishment than an entertaining diversion for a couple of hours.  I didn’t expect to find a movie that would make a lasting impression for the rest of my life, but I don’t want to pay to spend two hours listening to anything remotely connected with politics.  Since we are bombarded with all things political right now, even if Barney the purple dinosaur was running for mayor I can’t imagine paying to see him.  Although it might be fun to see if Barney’s “I love you, you love me” philosophy would sway any voters; and would his purple color better match Republican Red or Democratic Blue? (Or is purple the perfect blending of both?)

Personally I think Oliver Stone should have waited about 20 years to release this movie so it wouldn’t be conflicting with current impressions of a president in office.  Let the next generation decide his fate in the annals of Hollywood.  It’s always easier to keep your perspective when you are looking at something that happened to someone else.  Even though we look at him with admiration I wonder how the people in Washington’s day would have reacted to a movie about his fatherly role in the formation of our country back in 1776.  I can hear the neighbors talking now,  ”What does that young upstart know about being the father of a country?” and “Of course you’re right dear, even though that white wig does make him look a little older.”

After all that reading of movie reviews, I decided to just stay home and watch “Saturday Night Live” do political spoofs on TV.  Much funnier, and if I’m going to waste time anyway at least it was free.
