Super Bowl parties are happening everywhere this Sunday for Super Bowl XLIII. A couple of days ago I gave you some Super Bowl facts in the post Super Bowl XLIII. The truth is football is great, the halftime show is very entertaining and we’re all in suspense to see the creative commercials but the important thing is the food, and, oh yes the “beverages”. Since this is considered “a man thing” the food is mostly geared toward carnivorous males; the closest thing to a vegetable you will find on the top ten list is guacamole. I found a list of the top ten Super Bowl snacks on buzzle.com that I think is pretty good. Click on the link to see the list. Of course chicken wings are the number one Super bowl snack food, but if you have anything to add or delete from the list let me know and we will have our own list. We may have to do a little research to get it ready for next year, but I really think we can have the all time best, maybe even the MVP of Super Bowl Food Lists.

With all the talk about businesses closing and people losing their jobs it’s great to hear about new business here in River City. There’s a new pub in town; de Vere’s Irish Pub, 1521 L Street, Sacramento, CA 95818.
The de Vere family immigrated to the U. S. 28 years ago and have made our fair city of Sacramento their home since 1984. They went back to Ireland and worked with family to create a “real” Irish Pub and bring it to us here in Sacramento. So come downtown to the Firestone Building at the corner of 16th and L Street to check out the authentic Irish atmosphere and tip a pint while you have a bowl of Irish Stew. Click on this link to check out the decor and have a look at the menu at de Vere’s Irish Pub.

To commemorate and celebrate the contributions to our nation made by people of African descent, American historian Carter G. Woodson established Black History Week. The first celebration occurred on Feb. 12, 1926. For many years, the second week of February was set aside for this celebration to coincide with the birthdays of abolitionist/editor Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, as part of the nation’s bicentennial, the week was expanded into Black History Month. Each year, U. S. presidents proclaim February as National African-American History Month.
There are lots of events happening but here’s one that seems kind of special. On February 13, 2009, McClatchy High School, 3066 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA, is having a Black History Bee and the last student standing will win a basket of prizes. Click on this link for more info. What a great way to learn, a fun contest and prizes too!
