Sacramento Homeless Programs helped by Oprah

Published by sara at 12:04 pm under Good Things to Know

Officials at Loaves and Fishes and St. John’s shelter for women and children were part of an Oprah program showing the number of new people who have fallen victim to homelessness.

The donations didn’t come directly from Oprah but organizers said after the Sacramento homeless were featured on her show they have received calls from Florida to Texas.

So even if we aren’t glad to have the problems of our homeless people on national TV it is a good thing to get a little help from our friends.  Maybe this can be another reminder that we all need to do our part to help.

    To whom it may concern:

I was watching the news the other day and saw that Sacramento has programs for helping Homeless people get off the street & into a working class. I have searched and everything seems to be only for women & Children. I have a younger Cousin that moved here from out of state w/ a job and was layed off… got in w/ the wrong crowd due to depression and mixed into drugs. He is looking for help to end this cycle of drugs,& being along on the streets.(Homeless)

Is there any programs for young men ?? The new said the program included : Housing for detox, Training for a job and A Warm Bed & Food while in the program. Upon graduating from the program the women & children are placed with a employer, provided housing and a life couch to keep them on path for the 1st yr. The success rate was 85% That is amazing!!! I really want to help but not sure where to start! I have tried to provide housing but I have 3 young children and can’t help detox him ….. Please I fear for his life! Can you lead me into the right direction? Thank you for your time and cooperation!
