Bad Economy Hits Home (my home)

Last year in November (seems like a long time ago when I say it that way) my family did our part to stimulate the economy when we bought a house.  It was slightly used; well okay, it was one of the many foreclosures here in Sacramento, so it needed a couple of things.  It was our good fortune to find J. R. Acosta, the owner of Elite Home Construction, to help us with our upgrades to make it just right for us.  If you want to hear about what a great job he did check out the post from December……”Real Estate Improvement with a Little Help“.

The point of this not so positive post today is to tell you that the bad economy really hit home yesterday.  I called J. R. Acosta at his Elite Home Construction phone and left a message because I had another small project and I really needed his help again.  Since he is so reliable he called me back to tell me that he has closed his home construction business and taken a job working for a larger company.  I am glad he is resourceful enough to find employment to support his family, but I am sad that the economy caused him to close his small business.  I really hope that stimulus plan starts to work soon, because not only Sacramento but our whole country needs people with entrepreneurial spirit like J.R. to be able to grow their business instead of closing the doors.

Now that I’ve had my say about supporting small local businesses, I’m off to the hardware store to get the things I need since these closet shelves have become a do-it-yourself project.
