Sam’s Club Closing Ten Stores
All the local TV news stations, newspapers and blogs are talking about the Sam’s Club in Natomas closing on January 22, 2010. I was in Houston yesterday and started hearing the same story on the local news. I was surprised to hear Sacramento news as far away as Texas, but when I really stopped to listen to the story I realized the same thing was happening there too. So I did a little investigating and found out that Sam’s Club is closing ten stores around the country and four of them are in California. Not that it really makes anybody feel better, but that old “misery loves company” saying comes to mind here. At least Sacramento isn’t the only economy that is under-performing according to the all knowing business wizards at the Walmart Corporate office. Four out of ten stores closing being in California does tend to make one think that even though we are not alone once again we have not only the best of the best in good times and the worst of the worst in bad times. So people all across the country from California to Texas to New York are experiencing hard times, but when this economic crunch is over we will be the best of the best again, the golden state where the sun always shines and cows are happy.
Here is a list of Sam’s club store closings:
-La Quinta, CA
-Vista, CA
-Irvine, CA
-Sacramento, CA
-Nampa, ID
-Louisville, CO
-Rolling Meadows, IL
-Clay, NY
-Houston, TX
-Phoenix, AZ
Sam’s Club head Brian Cornell has said that the company is not just closing Sam’s Club locations. In fiscal 2011, the company plans to add five to 10 new, expanded or relocated stores. It also plans to renovate 60 to 80 Sam’s Club stores.

Point of clarification. That would be Nampa, ID (as in Idaho), not IN (Indiana).
Other than that, thanks for the update. Misery does like company, and it’s nice to know it wasn’t only my favorite Sam’s Club that is closing.
I’m so depressed.
