Feels Like Spring at Farmer’s Market in Sacramento

Farmer's Market has everything, even UGLY APPLES

I don’t know why, but spring makes me want to turn over a new leaf.  I don’t mean just spring cleaning or the first real weekend of working in the yard.  No, I mean getting back to the earth, thoughts of growing my own vegetables, maybe I’ll even get some chickens and have fresh eggs and get a cow and make my own butter.  Okay, those are visions of grandeur, maybe even hallucinations, but those thoughts did inspire me to visit the Farmer’s Market at 8t h and W Street (the one under the freeway that’s open all year long every Sunday morning from 8:00AM to noon). Opa! Opa! Greek Food in Sacramento

My friend and I visited Opa! Opa!, 5644 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95819, for the first time the other day and I am sure it was only the first of many times we find sustenance there for our inner Greek.  The mostly Greek food is served cafeteria style with no at table service which works great with the casual atmosphere.  I couldn’t really make up my mind what to have, but I was sure it needed to include tabouli.  So I settled on the “Little of This and a Little of That Salad” which is a little of three different salads, of course tabouli, a pasta salad and a totally Greek salad called “A Summer in Athens”; great choice for the indecisive Greek diner. Giant Block Party for Saint Patrick’s Day…… March 17,2010, in Downtown Sacramento

The “Luck of the Irish” is spilling into the streets of Sacramento.  The biggest Saint Patrick’s Day celebration in Sacramento is a giant block party.  The City of Sacramento will block off L Street between 15th and 16th Streets from 9:00AM to 6:00AM the next day, so there will be plenty of room for everyone that wants to be have a few beverages and feel a little Irish.

Last year, nearly 7,000 people showed up for an all-day event that remained festive and safe; with no incidents, thanks to great security and a great crowd. Who knows, maybe this year will be even bigger, so come down to L Street and check out the fun. Continue Reading »
