Animal Care Reminds People to Get Their Pets Ready for Summer

 

A few simple precautions can help your pet beat the heat.  As the weather starts to warm up, the County Animal Shelter is reminding pet owners of the importance of taking certain precautions to make sure their animals stay safe and cool during the hot Sacramento summer months.  “Pets are completely dependent on their owners to take care of them, and it is important that people stay alert to their pet’s health and well being,” said Carl Simpson, Interim Animal Shelter Director. “One of the more common instances we see of endangering pet’s health is dogs left in cars in hot weather. All it takes is a few minutes for a dog to succumb to heat stroke.”

New Watering Rules Go Into Effect with Time Change

 Residents and Businesses may irrigate properties three days a week based on address under City’s Irrigation Ordinance

 

When clocks were turned forward on Saturday night, the City of Sacramento Department of Utilities reminded residents and businesses to change their irrigation schedules as well.  The City’s current irrigation rules, found in the Water Conservation ordinance state that at the beginning of daylight savings time, residents and businesses may water up to three days a week, based on their address. Addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only and even-numbered addresses may water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. There is no watering allowed on Mondays. Homeschool Day at Crocker Art Museum

February 9, 2010 is Homeschool Day at Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.  These special days are designed for small homeschool groups and individual families.  They feature a trail of docent spotlight talks throughout the Museum, a hands-on art workshop and a post-visit art education activity to do at home.

 

Pre-registration is required. To register, call (916) 808-1182 or email education@crockerartmuseum.org.

 

Tickets are free to youth groups in Sacramento County, $2 per student outside Sacramento County, required chaperones are free (1:5 chaperone to students), $4 per additional chaperone.

Sacramento County Animal Care Facility Receives Gold Certification Under LEED Standards

The new Animal Care Facility, opened in October 2009, has just received a GOLD LEED certification from the US Green Building Council.  The LEED program – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certifies the level of green elements in a building’s design, including a minimum impact on the environment in construction and energy savings in design.  This designation highlights County commitment to “green building” construction. Sacramento County Animal Care Looking for Donation of Pet Food to Pet Pantry

In an effort to keep pets in their homes, the Sacramento County Animal Care Department is soliciting donations of unopened canned and dry pet food from the public for the newly-launched Pet Pantry Program. The goal of this program is to provide pet food to families who may need some extra assistance in caring for their animals. The program is open to any family in need in the Sacramento area.
