Email from Obama
I’m feeling important again today. You guessed it; I got another personal email from Barak Obama. It’s a pretty fancy message too with a video right in the middle; they must have a cracker jack tech team at the white house. No invites to a cabinet meeting yet, but I’m on the email list. I also got a notice that I won the Canadian Lottery, an offer for a free cell phone, and a message from a widow in Africa that needs my help getting her money out of the country and away from all the corrupt people trying to cheat her out of her fortune, it’s so bad she has offered me half her money if I will just help her. I’ll deal with those other opportunities later, but first I need to tell you what the President wanted in his email. A couple of months ago I told you about Hands-On-Sacramento, an organization that will help match you with volunteer opportunities in our Sacramento community. It seems that Mayor Kevin Johnson and Congress Woman, Doris Matsui, have joined this effort to encourage volunteerism and service in our community, in partnership with Hands-On-Sacramento.
On Friday, March 27, 2009, from 6:00AM to 8:00AM Mayor Kevin Johnson will be on the Good Day Sacramento show to promote this effort to make Sacramento the number one city in California for volunteering, and ask every resident to donate a minimum of 10 hours each year. Their goal is to have over 350,000 hours of community service logged by the end of 2009, which will translate into an economic contribution of more than $7 million back into our community. Adults, youth, families and companies will participate in service projects centered on a monthly calendar of volunteer themes.
